About Me

So if you are giving me the courtesy of reading my blog, I guess it is only fair for me to tell you a
little about myself. (By the way, if you read my name, it's not the truth...it's just the power of
positive thinking!)

I'm the one with the "pretty face." The "great personality". The "really nice girl" that you live
near, work with, go to church with, or are related to.

Yes, all the secret codes for "more weight than she should have" but otherwise quite acceptable. Of course, the implications come after. She must just not KNOW how to lose weight. She must just be lazy or not care about herself. I even had a nutritionist accuse me of not caring about my DAUGHTER's health!

If you are reading this blog, I figure you will be nodding your head and silently stepping up next to me. You've probably been there. And you've been there with me through all the plans:

* The low fat

* The low/no/certain-types-of carbs

* The ones at the hospitals that "teach" you what they believe you don't know

* The ones where you buy their food

* The ones where you do their math

* The hypnosis, acupuncture, herbal, vegan "alternatives"

In fact, I hope and pray that some of the fabulous people I've met on this weight loss journey ARE reading this blog. I wish I had their contact information so I could talk to them about what's going on now!

With me! I am in my very early 40's... a mom, a wife, a daughter. A very intelligent, only
somewhat-lazy person who has considered myself overweight since my early teens.

I didn't really start making any major effort until I was a grown up. Flash back to my early 20s: I had finished school and was out in the workforce. I had to buy pantyhose...regular didn't fit...I had to buy Queen. Uh-oh. Time for a diet. But I was single, childless, and Mom was still cooking. I had plenty of time to stop at the gym on the way home. The weight came off easily.

When I met my husband, I was *almost* within the official range for perfect weight for my height (5'6") (Check yours here: http://www.healthchecksystems.com/heightweightchart.htm)

But once you start feeling comfortable with your life, then you get "comfortable" with your body. You'd rather be with that great guy (or girl), hanging out, enjoying life (which includes good food and drink), rather than at the gym! And when you start cooking your own meals, things REALLY get out of hand.

I've been tracking my weight since the fateful pantyhose day. Almost every day. Did it help?
Sometimes. Sometimes not. It still kept going up and up and only occasionally down.

For the last 10 years of my life, one of my New Year's Resolutions has been to lose weight. For the last 7 or so, the goal was simply to get below 200 pounds. You would think that would be easy. But I couldn't manage to do it. Even armed with all that diet knowledge and all the diet tricks (and continuing to read up on the latest techniques).

Well, at least not until THIS year... :-))
